27 Club Prototype Pendants

If and when I ever have any extra cash, it either gets spent on materials or gig tickets. Music has always been a huge part of my life and often features in my work. In the first year of my degree I created a series of glass balloons decorated with world maps, each pinpointed with an individual place to represent the location of a memory triggered by a specific song for each person. In the background ran a playlist of the songs in the stories of the people who took part. Alongside this was a set of five glass tablets with each memory and song individually written in the glass, so the viewer could match up the song to the memory and the place running from the top of Britain, to the most southern part.

After the stress of the first module of second year, which required technical abilities and computer skills, I was so excited to write my own brief and get creative for the next module. Revisiting both this project and another which focussed on the tragic deaths of Hollywood starlets in the sixties, I focussed my attention on musical tragedies and my love of jewellery, resulting in the development of a 27 Club inspired piece of jewellery.

I have been working on a way to create cameo style necklaces featuring each of the famous six members of the notorious club in glass. Experimetning with pate de verre is proving tricky, as I have little knowledge on how to get the best results, so just in case I have been making metal prototypes as a back up.

The finished piece with be part of a collaborative exhibition at the Shipley Gallery in Gateshead on 20th May and will run for a week, so there is no time for rest until I find a way to get these results in glass!
